New Mural Brings Colour and Hope to the ACH
We’re delighted to share the completion of a new mural at the Active Communities Hub in Centrale, Croydon — created by local Croydon artist Alec Saunders.
Over the past few weeks, visitors may have seen the artwork gradually take shape. Now complete, it has already transformed the feel of the space - adding colour, warmth, and a strong sense of welcome for everyone who walks through the doors.
At the heart of the piece is a butterfly motif, reflecting themes of change, movement, and new beginnings. As Alec puts it:
“Butterflies travel great distances guided by instinct and hope. Human journeys are much the same — crossing borders, learning new languages, and transforming through courage, resilience, and community.”
The mural is also created using repurposed paint and materials — giving a second life to resources that might otherwise be discarded. It’s a fitting reflection of the many stories of resilience, creativity, and fresh starts that pass through the Hub each week.
We’re hugely grateful to Alec for creating something that will be enjoyed by the Croydon community for years to come.
If you’re visiting the Hub, do take a moment to stop and have a look.
